Things to know before you go

  • Death Valley earned its name from the dangers of searing heat and scorching sun. If visiting in summer, be very attentive to the conditions, and proactive with lots of water and protective coverage.
  • Be careful near the rim of the crater: the area can be subject to strong and unexpected wind gusts, so take caution.
  • If hiking one of the three trails around Ubehebe Crater, stick to the path: Loose rocks and other materials may make areas around the crater unstable and dangerous.
