The Basics
Full-day tours to Fuerteventura typically include a stop in Betancuria, as well as visits to the island’s other attractions, such as Corralejo National Park, ideal if you’re hoping to maximize your stay in Spain. You can also easily explore Betancuria on a day trip from nearby Antigua or Corralejo and spend an afternoon seeing the sights. Depending which route into town you take, make time to stop at either the Morra Velosa or Corrales de Guize viewpoints for panoramic vistas over the town of Betancuria below.
Things to Know Before You Go
Entrance to the Museum of Sacred Art is included in the cost of admission to the Santa María Church.
Many attractions in and around Betancuria—including the Morra Velosa Viewpoint and the Archaeology Museum—are typically closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Combine a visit to Betancuria with other Fuerteventura destinations during full-day excursions to the island.
Wide, smooth sidewalks mean that Betancuria is navigable in parts for wheelchair users.
How to Get There
Situated just 12.5 miles (20 kilometers) from Antigua and 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Corralejo, Betancuria is most easily accessible via private vehicle. There are several parking lots situated around the town, including one near the convent, although full-day tours to Betancuria and beyond typically include convenient round-trip transportation.

When to Get There
Few restaurants, bars, and points of interest remain open into the evening in Betancuria, so visit during the day to see the town at its bustling best and stop by midweek to skip the worst of the town’s weekender crowds. In September, Betancuria and the wider region plays host to the Pilgrimage of Peña, an important event which combines culture and religion.
What to Do in Fuerteventura
The second largest Canary Island—after nearby Tenerife—Fuerteventura has lots to offer travelers looking for adventure and family-friendly appeal. Try your hand at water sports or ride a buggy through the sand dunes in Corralejo National Park, take a trip to the kid-friendly lagoons of El Cotillo and Sotavento, or explore the caves of Ajuy.
