If you don’t want to take the tour, head straight to the Red Flag tavern next door to try the beer.
You’ll also learn more about Alexander Keith himself. Born in Scotland, like many others he emigrated to Nova Scotia for the chance at a better life. A local hero, he not only opened the now-famous brewery but was a local politician too and served as mayor of Halifax three times.
Alexander Keith’s brewery is located at 1496 Lower Water Street, along the main Halifax waterfront. It’s walking distance from other popular attractions including the farmer's market and the Maritime Museum. The main VIA rail station is a 15-minute walk away, and there’s a paid parking lot roughly a 5-minute walk away.
Brewery tours are available throughout the year and make a great rainy day activity. Plan on booking in advance if you can, as the tour is usually busy.
