Although the house is the full-time residence of the lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia, it’s open to the public for tours during certain times of year—and for specific public events. Available on a first-come, first-served basis, the guided tours depart every 30 minutes and cover the Main Foyer, Grand Staircase, Ballroom, Morning Room, Drawing Room, and Dining Room. Government House hosts an annual garden party at the end of June, and invites the public to explore the grounds of the historic house while mingling with the lieutenant governor.
