There has been a farmer’s market in Halifax for almost 170 years. The oldest continuously running market in the US & Canada, this farmer’s market is held every day of the week and offers some of the best food available in town, whether you pick up provisions for a picnic or browse the excellent wines on offer. Gourmet food aside, you’ll also find jewelry and artworks by local artisans.
The Halifax Seaport Farmer’s Market is located at 1209 Marginal Road along the waterfront in the Seaport district. There’s car parking on-site and Halifax’s main VIA rail station is just a couple of minute’s walk away. The city also has a reliable taxi service.
While the market is open every day, there’s usually a greater number of vendors to choose from at the weekend. For the best fresh produce – vegetables, fish, and meat – try to arrive as early as possible. There are often lines at the most popular prepared food stalls during lunchtime.
The farmer's market is in the heart of the Seaport District, an arts and culture hub that runs from Pier 19 to Pier 23 along the Halifax waterfront. Highlights of the area include The Canadian Museum of Immigration and the Cunard Centre, a huge events space that often holds special events, conferences, and festivals from Mother’s Day brunches to the Maritime Tattoo Festival.
