Located on Halifax’s waterfront, the museum displays models of many different types of boats with explanations of how they were used, plus an exhibit dedicated to the catastrophic Halifax Explosion in 1917. The MMA’s biggest draw is undoubtedly its Titanic exhibition—the belongings of passengers who died when the Titanic sank are displayed in the museum, alongside pieces of the wreckage. Children will love the chance to go onboard the CSS Acadia, built in Britain to survey Canada’s northern waters.

During the summer season (May to October), the museum is open daily. In winter (November to April), it’s closed on Mondays. The CSS Acadia is only open to visitors open during the summer season. There are late-night openings on Tuesdays all year round.
