Whether you’re on a city sightseeing tour, taking a walking or biking tour of Houston’s Business District, or cruising along the Buffalo Bayou on a kayak, Wells Fargo Plaza is an unmistakable highlight of the city skyline. Admire the gleaming 71-story glass skyscraper, designed by Richard Keating and inaugurated in 1982, then stroll around the sunken plaza before heading inside to discover the polished marble interiors. Two sky lobbies on the 34th and 58th floors are open to the public, offering spectacular views over downtown Houston.

Things to know before you go

  • Double-decker elevators whisk visitors up to the sky lobbies on the 34/35th and 58/59th floors. There is no admission fee.

  • Wells Fargo Tower is one of just two entry points to the famous Downtown Houston Tunnels, which stretch for more than 6 miles (9.5 kilometers) beneath the city.

  • Foodies, take note—the seasonal Wednesday market at City Hall, full of lunchtime food vendors, is just a short stroll away.

  • Wells Fargo Tower is fully accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

Wells Fargo Plaza in downtown Houston is located at 1000 Louisiana Street. It’s easy to reach on foot, or take the MetroRail to Main Street Square NB or Main Street Square SB, and it’s 3 blocks away.

When to get there

The sky lobbies are open to the public on weekdays only from early morning to evening. The tower’s glass facade—and the views from the top—are most impressive when the sun is shining, but it’s worth swinging by in the evening hours too, when it’s dramatically illuminated.

Once you’ve visited Wells Fargo Plaza, be sure to take in Houston’s other architectural highlights, including the JPMorgan Chase Tower, the city’s tallest building.
