The Basics

Among the leading Jewish cultural venues in Los Angeles, the Skirball Cultural Center welcomes visitors of all stripes to discover its lively array of exhibitions and events. Comprising more than 25,000 objects, the on-site museum showcases millennia-old artifacts, photographs, artworks, multimedia instalments, and an array of other precious objects. The center’s picturesque campus, designed by architect Moshe Safdie, also boasts a cafe, scenic courtyard and garden areas, a performing arts space, and more, making it a pleasant place to spend a few hours.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Tickets to the museum can only be purchased on site on the day of, though tickets to select events can be purchased in advance.
  • No pets are permitted on the Skirball campus, and smoking is also prohibited.
  • The facility is accessible to wheelchair users and provides numerous services and options for visitors with disabilities.
  • If traveling with kids, don’t forget to check out Noah’s Ark at the Skirball: an award-winning gallery and immersive play area aimed at young visitors.
  • Make a day of it: stay to grab a bite at the recently renovated Zeidler's Café, which serves an array of fresh, tasty dishes.

How to Get There

The Skirball Cultural Center is located in the scenic Bel Air hills, just up the road from the Getty Center. The landmark is served by local bus lines, including the 734, and traveling by car is the most direct way to access it—take Interstate 405 to reach it, or use rideshare services. Free parking garages are hosted on site.

When to Get There

The Skirball Cultural Center is open from 12–5pm, Tuesday–Friday, and from 10am–5pm Saturday–Sunday. It is closed on Mondays and public holidays. Given its busy event schedule and rotating event series, there will always be something new to take in, and repeat visits to the cultural hub are encouraged.

Events and Programming at the Skirball Cultural Center

The Skirball’s many exhibitions are only one facet of its offerings. The cultural center also hosts regular film screenings, public tours, comedy performances, concerts, and talks with artists and experts, as well as hands-on family workshops designed to stimulate visitors’ creativity. The center also holds several regular event series, including the Skirball Puppet Festival in April and Outdoor Movies at the Skirball in the summer.
