The basics

There’s a lot to see at the Valley of the Nobles, which has more than 400 tombs. Tickets are sold by tomb group, and you’ll need a separate ticket for each group. With so many options, it can be hard to know where to start, so visiting with a tour guide is a good strategy to ensure you find the most interesting sites. Nearby destinations include the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Artisans, and many tours combine the Valley of the Nobles with other stops on the West Bank.

How to get there

The Valley of the Nobles is located on Luxor’s West Bank. If you’re visiting with a tour, transportation will be taken care of. Otherwise, hire a taxi for the 40-minute trip from downtown Luxor. To avoid the long drive to the Luxor Bridge, you can also take the public ferry to the West Bank of the Nile and hire a taxi to take you the rest of the way.

When to get there

Lots of walking and little shade mean that morning is the best time to visit the Valley of the Nobles. Temperatures soar during the summer months of May through September, but the heat keeps crowds away as well. High season is in winter, when temperatures are more comfortable.

Tomb highlights

Since the tombs in the Valley of the Nobles are divided into groups, you’ll be able to visit more than one with each ticket. In the Tombs of Menna, Nakht, and Amenemope, find vivid wall paintings with images of fish, game, and farms. The Tombs of Khonsu, Userhet, and Benia are known for depictions of feasts and flying ducks. For relief carvings that span two artistic styles, visit the Tombs of Ramose, Userhet, and Khaemhet.
