Battle Road Trail

Concord, Massachusetts

The basics

Battle Road Trail is located in Concord's Minute Man National Historical Park, and it's an essential destination for history buffs. A fitting complement to a Boston Freedom Trail walking tour, this site is ideal for travelers wanting to see where the opening battles of the Revolutionary War were fought.

The park is free to visit. You can walk or bike along the 5-mile (8-kilometer) stretch as it winds through wetlands and farm fields. Along the way, look out for historic ambush points, and follow route signposts to learn about the 1775 battles. You can also stop at the park's historic sights—including Hartwell Tavern, Captain William Smith House, and the spot where Paul Revere was captured.
