The basics

Myrtle Beach State Park protects one of the last wild stretches of coast in South Carolina, making it one of the most popular natural escapes in the Myrtle Beach area. Admission to the park grants access to day use areas, including the fishing pier, picnic shelters, and the beach. Overnight camping and fishing require separate permits. An on-site nature center features natural history exhibits, as well as an aquarium with live reptiles and saltwater species.

Sea Turtles at Myrtle Beach State Park

South Carolina’s state reptile, the loggerhead sea turtle, is known to nest in the sands of Myrtle Beach State Park, with eggs typically hatching from late July through October. To help protect the turtle population, stay off the sand dunes, and contact a park ranger if you see a turtle or a hatching nest site.
