Praktische Infos
Things to Know Before You Go
- Thirassia is perfect for history lovers and couples.
- Rent a bike if you plan on staying a couple of days; buses don’t provide access to the entire island.
- Don’t leave before having lunch at a cliff-top taverna.
- The port area is wheelchair-accessible.

How to Get There
Thirassia is a small island off the west coast of Santorini, across the caldera on the other side of Nea Kameni hot springs. Take a ferry from Santo on Santorini to Thirassia’s port Riva. Travel time is approximately 15 minutes. Schedules are unpredictable; the safest bet is to go on a pre-arranged tour.
When to Get There
The islands of Thirassia and Santorini are beautiful year-round with both enjoying a summer peak season from June through August. Come in the spring and fall shoulder months to avoid the crowds, while the weather is still quite warm.
Nea Kameni Volcano
Located between Santorini and Thirassia, Nea Kameni is a small volcanic island in Santori’s flooded caldera. Formed less than 500 years ago, the island is the youngest volcanic landform in the Eastern Mediterranean. Hike up to the crater and take a dip at the hot springs while soaking up incredible Aegean views.
