Maria Luisa Park

Maria Luisa Park, Seville

The basics

Maria Luisa Park is the city’s main park and is included as a stop-off on almost all sightseeing tours of Seville, whether conducted on foot, by bike, or Segway. Being just a short stroll from the historic center, the park is typically visited alongside other major Seville attractions such as the Royal Alcázar of Seville (Real Alcázar de Sevilla), Seville Cathedral (Catedral de Santa María de la Sede), and the Seville Bullring (Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza de Cabellería de Sevilla). There are lots of shaded paths ideal for strolling, but if the heat makes walking a little too hard, you may want to hitch a ride through the park on a horse-drawn carriage instead.

When to get there

Summers in Seville are sweltering and while the leafy greenery of the park provides shade, it can still be extremely hot. Between June and September, arrive at the park in the morning before temperatures soar, or come in the evening when they begin to drop.

Plaza de España

Situated at the northeastern edge of the park, this semicircular plaza was constructed for the Ibero-American Exposition in 1929. The plaza is nothing if not elaborate with Renaissance and Moorish-style buildings, and heavily embellished bridges, fountains, and alcoves—all decorated with colorful tile work.
