The Basics
There’s something at the Museum of Science and the Cosmos to entertain and engage all ages. Learn about the laws of nature, the fundamentals of the universe, and the intricate workings of the human body as you take part in science experiments and tackle a series of science-based puzzles. Find out how a mobile phone works, escape from a mirror maze, play around with 3D special effects, and discover the secrets of the solar system. Don’t miss a visit to the planetarium, which hosts regular astronomy shows.
Things to Know Before You Go
- The museum is a popular choice for families—there are many exhibitions aimed at children, including a section for toddlers. Entrance is free for children under 8.
- Admission tickets include access to all exhibitions, but there is an extra charge to attend the planetarium shows.
- Museum exhibitions and planetarium shows are in Spanish only—although it’s still easy to take part in the science experiments, a translation app is a good idea if you want to understand more.
- The museum is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
How to Get There
The museum is located along Avenida de los Menceyes in La Laguna. Hop on tram line 1 from downtown, which stops right outside the museum. Street parking is available for those arriving with their own transport, but spaces can fill up quickly, especially on weekends.

When to Get There
The museum is open daily. School groups often visit on weekday mornings during which time the planetarium is closed to the public and the exhibitions can get crowded—opt for an afternoon or weekend visit instead. Budget travelers can make the most of free entrance on Fridays and Saturdays between 4pm and 8pm, although be prepared for crowds at these times too.
Visiting Tenerife’s Museums
After immersing yourself in the wonders of science, take the time to discover some of Tenerife’s other museums. In Santa Cruz, head to the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) to learn more about the island’s ancient Guanches people; see WWII tanks and military helicopters at the Historical Military Museum of the Canary Islands; then admire local and international art at the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts. Quirkier options include the nostalgic ARTlandya toy museum and the Casa del Vino wine museum, where you can also enjoy wine tasting.
