The basics

This museum takes visitors on a journey through the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, from the terrors of Nazi rule to the fighting, defeat of the rebels, and the city's subsequent destruction and occupation by Soviet forces.

Entry is ticketed and visitors explore the three-level space independently, with the option to pay extra for an audio guide. The museum is a fixture on many Warsaw tours that focus on the city’s modern history; these typically include a visit to the museum alone or an added visit to a second location, such as the POLIN Museum, and include return transportation for convenience.

Museum highlights

The museum mixes interactive experiences and original artifacts to recreate the atmosphere and events of 1944 Warsaw. After discovering the horrors of Nazi rule, visitors can walk through a replica of a radio room and secret printing facility used by the insurgents; view a mock B24 Allied plane—the aircraft used to drop supplies on the besieged city—and most poignantly, shots of Warsaw landmarks being destroyed by the Nazis.
