It’s cliche to say that parenthood changes your life, but it’s certainly changed the way I see Orlando. Over the course of 15 years, I’ve evolved from a broke college student trying to find cheap eats to a husband planning unique date nights. Now, I’m a dad on a mission to find kid-friendly spaces that aren’t as expensive as the happiest place on the planet.
Orlando’s theme parks are awesome for both the young and young at heart. Whether you’re on a budget, already checked “roller coaster riding” off of your to-do list, or simply want an alternative to the absolutely crowded tourist district, here’s how your family of all ages can enjoy three fun days in Orlando.
Kiddos can wear whatever, but parents should pack an umbrella and sunscreen.
If you only have time for one thing, make it Gatorland.
Orlando proper is just as family-friendly as the many theme parks plastered on the postcards. The Orlando Science Center is one of the coolest museums for children, but it’s far from the only cultural attraction. Take an Orlando sightseeing tour to learn more about fun activities found throughout the city, such as the pedal-swan rides on Lake Eola, the flora at Kraft Azalea Garden in Winter Park, and the always fun Disney Springs™.
Then, explore one of the wildest attractions in Central Florida: Gatorland, home to hundreds of the original Florida locals.
One of the best parts of an Orlando vacation is that the best of central Florida is not much more than an hour’s drive away. Give the kids an out of this world experience with a trip to the Kennedy Space Center—you might even catch a rocket launch.
If you’ve got wee little ones who deserve a day at a theme park, both LEGOLAND® Florida and Peppa Pig Theme Park offer unforgettable fun without the challenges of the larger parks.
Spend your final day in Orlando enjoying the sunshine with your family, this time away from the city streets. The young and young at heart over the age of 6 will love climbing the canopies at Orlando Tree Trek Adventure Park in Kissimmee.
Plant more memories with the ones you love with exciting animal encounters at Wild Florida. Combine an alligator-filled airboat ride in the swamp with a tour through the wildlife park for one last wildly fun day in Orlando.
