Wir holen von Hotels innerhalb der Stadt Anchorage ab. Wir holen möglicherweise auch bei einem Airbnb ab, wenn es nicht zu weit von unserer typischen Route in Anchorage entfernt ist. Um es klar zu sagen, wir holen NICHT im Alyeska Resort oder einer anderen Unterkunft in Girdwood ab. Reisende, die dort übernachten, werden angewiesen, sich an einem bestimmten Ort in Anchorage zu treffen. Der Zeitpunkt der Abholung hängt davon ab, wie viele Reisende an diesem Abend auf der Tour sind und wie sich die Wolkenbedeckung auf unsere Tourroute für die Nacht auswirkt. Am Tag der Tour wird ein Zeitplan mit Zeiten und Orten für die Abholung verschickt. Die Abholzeiten für diese Tour variierten von 20:00 bis 22:00 Uhr. bis Mitternacht.

Breathtaking Experience of a Lifetime

We traveled all the way from Williamsburg, VA, as seeing the Northern Lights in Alaska was at the top of my husband’s lifetime “bucket list”. Ben was a very knowledgeable and wonderful guide. Tour did not happen due to questionable weather! Very little communication before hand had to call to find out may be cancelled.

Hi. Yes, unfortunately, this is a weather-dependent tour. Unlike other tour operators, we will not run this tour if the weather will prevent seeing the northern lights. We provided you two specific communications in advance of the tour about weather. First, on the day before the tour, you were notified the following: "This is not a confirmation that the tour is proceeding; that is dependent upon weather. You can check the Upcoming Tour Status on the [tour page link] to see our estimate for whether the tour is proceeding." Had you clicked that link, you would have seen the status as "Tour Will Not Likely Run." Then, on the day of the tour at 3:01 p.m., you were notified through the Viator messaging system that the tour was not running due to weather and offered the chance to reschedule. You responded to that message one hour later and indicated you were not able to reschedule. Thus, you did not have to call to find out the status of the tour - we informed you in accordance with our statement the day before that you would receive a confirmation of tour status by 3:00 pm. In the next week after that, the tour ran six nights in a row with good weather conditions and visible aurora each night. We always recommend that people book the northern lights tour toward the beginning of their visit, not the end, so they have more availability to reschedule. We apologize if you found our communication lacking. When you book through Viator, we are forced to use their messaging system. We do not have the ability to email you directly.

Hi. Yes, unfortunately, this is a weather-dependent tour. Unlike other tour operators, we will not run this tour if the weather will prevent seeing the northern lights. As per our policy, all tours cancelled due to weather have been refunded. It takes Viator up to five business days to refund your tour. You were notified of this when the tour was cancelled. There was no need to leave a one-star review. Had you called us or messaged us, we would have happily provided you that information. Unfortunately, as you did not provide a real name with your review, we cannot follow up on the specifics of your refund. We suggest you contact Viator and see what the delay is. (That is, if you have not already received your refund.)

Hi. The ability to see the northern lights is determined by a variety of factors. On the tour page on our website, we provide the specific parameters of moon, weather, and aurora conditions in which we will (or will not) run our tour. In the email you received notifying you of the status of the tour, we explained in great detail why the tour was canceled (In fact, we communicated to you on three separate occasions throughout the afternoon and evening that day that the tour was cancelled due to weather.) It was too cloudy and it was snowing. This makes it impossible to see the northern lights. I am sorry you feel it is a "sham" for us to cancel a tour under such conditions, but we feel it is irresponsible to run a tour when there is no chance of seeing the aurora borealis. As for your refund, it was not submitted immediately because we were waiting to hear from you. We asked you through email as to whether you would like to reschedule to another night. You never responded. You were refunded two days later, but perhaps were not aware of it when you posted this review.

The universe worked against us last night, but Ronnie did the best he could by going to spots where we could have most likely seen Northern Lights. The company did make it clear that we would be taking a risk and seeing Northern Lights is not always guaranteed. I would still recommend this tour and would most likely do it again. My one suggestion for anyone would be to do as much research as possible on your end including searching the best months to travel, which should broaden your chances of seeing Northern Lights.

Thank you so much for your feedback. On the night of your tour, we ran "At Guest's Discretion," which means that conditions are not optimal, but there is still a chance. While we anticipated it was cloud cover that would be an issue, Ronnie found clear skies for you. The aurora did not appear because the polarity of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field was positive, or north - and that polarity will reduce or eliminate aurora activity. That is unfortunately one aspect of the aurora that cannot be anticipated. We are so happy that you would like to join us again, and we hope you find your way back to Alaska for another visit.
Didn’t see the lights

We didn’t get lucky and didn’t see much expect a faint green glow on our tour. That said, the guide was nice and seemed to know all the good spots to check. I wish he’d been a bit less chatty in the car, since we were tired and trying to sleep during the drive.

So, your review indicates that you did see the northern lights. From what I have seen of the photos from the tour that you were provided, the aurora was more active than a faint green glow. What you were likely expecting to see is only present during a geomagnetic storm. December is one of the months with the fewest average geomagnetic storms per month, based on a study of 75 years of aurora activity. Unfortunately, we cannot control how or when the northern lights appear. I am glad that our guide worked hard to find a location where you could have a chance to see the northern lights.
Moose on the road

We went to different locations to catch the aurora, to our luck the clouds started to settle in. We knew that there was a high chance conditions would change, we still went. It was really unpredictable, but our guide really tried his best to catch the aurora. Also driving was 15/10 he avoided a random moose crossing in pitch black roads. It was hilarious and felt safe all throughout our trip.

We saw the lights, the Northern Lights

Ben was our guide and took us to one his favorite viewing spots and it turned out to be great place to see the Aurora. Ben was friendly and did a great job setting us up for success to see the Aurora. We were driven about 100 miles north of Anchorage to a spot in-between some hills/mountains that allowed us to capture some great photos. Along the way to our viewing spot Ben talked about his passion for photography and about life in general in Alaska; it was a great way to pass the time as we made our way to the viewing location. Alaska Trek Photos, the tour company, did a great job communicating prior to the tour. They alerted us to a shop (6th Avenue Outfitters) that would rent us cold-weather gear and suggested getting an app for our iPhone that would aid in getting better pictures. We used an iPhone 12 for our picture taking and the results were phenomenal; I'd recommend bringing a stylus to activate the shutter, so you don't have to take your gloves off; either that or get a pair of gloves that allow interaction with the screen on your phone. Alaska trek loaned us a tripod to hold the camera and I'd recommending arranging the loan of a tripod for your adventure. During the tour Ben took pictures of us and Alaska Trek made these photos available to us quickly after the tour. Ben and the tour company made our bucket-list adventure a success, even though the temperature at the time of the tour was -12F. I'd recommend this tour to my family, my friends and to you, the person reading this review right now.

A little and short Aurora Quest-Northern Light show

Not a lot of Aurora Quest-Norther lights that night, I guess it’s not a good time to watch but anyway at least it’s show a little but too short like 1-2 mins only, the tour guide tried on other stop but nothing so all the tourist are decided to go back because we’re all sleepy it’s already 3:30 am. The tour guide is so nice but we’re not lucky to see the good Northern lights maybe we’re going to try in Fairbank next time.

Thank you for your feedback. From what I am hearing, we did a good job with the things that we can control - the guide making an effort to ensure you had a chance to see the northern lights and otherwise taking good care of you. As for the northern lights, it is a natural phenomenon that we cannot control. We go out on nights when the available forecast information indicates there is a good chance of seeing the northern lights. On any given night, the northern lights will behave differently. Even Fairbanks cannot guarantee seeing the northern lights. The best thing to do is to give yourself several nights to go chasing the lights.

Given the weather and location (Anchorage vs Fairbanks) this Gould have been canceled before we got to Alaska .

The trip was canceled due to weather. We asked to be waitlisted for the next night. We were not even contacted about the second night. Since the company canceled we are expecting a full refund. This changed our plans for the rest of our time in Alaska. We are extremely dissatisfied with the handling of this matter.

I am sorry that you feel that way. In coastal Alaska, the weather forecast can change on a daily basis, We cannot control the weather, but we can be adaptive if the weather changes. There are many times throughout the season when two or three days out it looks like our tour will not run, and then the weather shifts and we proceed on tour. So we feel it is only responsible for us to do a daily weather forecast, and make a daily determination as to whether the tour should run. We also publish on our website a three-day outlook so anyone in the public can see the likelihood of whether our tour is going to run based on the short term forecast. We always provide our guests the opportunity to reschedule or get a full refund with a weather cancellation. You will receive a full refund per our cancellation policy. That is why it is always a good idea to give yourself several days to have a chance to see the northern lights, and to book a tour at the beginning of your trip. As for the waitlist, we only contact people on the waitlist if space is available and the tour is proceeding. When you were placed on the waitlist, you would have been told the likelihood of the space opening up is low.
