Wunderschöner Ausflug! Absolut zu empfehlen. Zuerst auf über 4000m den Sonnenuntergang bestaunen und anschliessend die Milchstrasse sehen, atemberaubend!!

We have learned a lot during our tour since our tour guide has a vast knowledge not just about Mauna Kea itself but regarding the Hawaiian culture and place as well. The view is stunning! I believe the $250 fee is all worth it. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Big Island of Hawaii.

To see the sunset behind the clouds on the tallest mountain in the world (including what lies below the water)--epic! The views are stupendous. The history of the incredible astronomical discoveries made by the observatories there. It's all part of the tour. The driver, Tay, gave interesting cultural, historical, and geologic information on the way up the mountain. Knowing it's a long trip, he kept quiet on the way down unless someone had a question. The star talk given by one of the other drivers was interesting as well. He really knows the sky by the Hawaiian star names. However, some of the astronomical information he gave during the night was erroneous. I'm an amateur astronomer, so I knew that some of what he said was incorrect, but if you didn't know better it sounded impressive.

The guides were very nice and informative. However, when it was time to change buses to reach the summit on the 4x4, we ended up sitting at the back with hardly any window view. The sunset at the summit was beautiful, but the stargazing experience was lacking; there was only one telescope, and we could only observe three different things with it. Warm beverages and jackets were greatly appreciated

A magic evening watching the sunset and stargazing with our guide Blaze. It was a truly incredible experience. Blaze’s knowledge of the stars was incredible and the professional photos a great reminder of this trip. We were also very well looked after. It was at a nice leisurely pace and provided hot snacks/drinks. We felt that we picked the right trip without the dinner, as we do not feel that the dinner would have added to the experience.

What an experience! Mauna Kea was stunning and I really felt connected to the entire Universe. The stargazing was great and the crew was super nice, professional and accommodating. The only downside was getting altitude sickness towards the end but fresh air and hydration helped.

This was such a cool experience! I am so glad we didn’t try doing this on our own, I don’t think the rental car companies allow you to, but it is kind of a scary drive in a more normal vehicle. We got a lot of knowledge on the way up and then we were left to enjoy the sunset. We got some special parts too like seeing the observatories closer and getting a brief constellations lesson, including Hawaiian constellations. They gave enough breaks and snacks, we didn’t use their warm gear, but everyone else did, we already brought our own for other things we were doing. Overall it was great and I highly recommend!!

This is as close to being on top of the world as you'll get without Sherpa guides and a half a million dollars in support crew. I can't say enough good things about our guide Blaze. He has an incredible depth of knowledge, love and enthusiasm for his job! The trip was well organized without being inflexible. Blaze helped me put my iPhone on just the right timed exposure to take amazing Milky Way photos. I even caught the glow of Kilauea erupting! I was truly impressed with Blaze's galaxy narration with laser pointer describing the constellations, and individual stars. The tour operator provided top of the line communication from booking to completion. Our guide made this tour one for the record books!

Just an amazing experience all the way around. I have never seen such an amazing night of stars in my life. We were able to see galaxies far away, constellations, satellites, and more. The sunset was beautiful but the starts were amazing and our guides were great.

Clearly, in the world of business, the company or the tour guides prioritized their profits by insisting on going up the mountain for the tour, despite being well aware that the weather conditions were unsuitable for stargazing, the primary attraction of the tour. Despite this awareness, the tour guides led a group of people up the mountain, seemingly unmindful of the potential consequences. Given that stargazing was the main reason people had signed up for the tour, I would have certainly requested a refund if possible or the opportunity to reschedule for another day dedicated to stargazing. However, no such alternatives were presented, and the disappointment we experienced remained unaddressed.
