    The whole experience was enlighting . Our tour guide Graham, an ex prision officer , was a fountain of knowledge and gave us great insight into the daily running of the Prison and its challenges. I would highly recommend this tour.

    There were three of us visiting and we all really enjoyed our visit. We had two guides who were both excellent. It was great that they were both able to add to the prison’s history with plenty of fascinating stories. We took heed of the advice to visit and we’re glad we did. It was well worth the money to have the guided tour.

    Graham, our guide and ex prison officer, was brilliant at re-telling stories of prison life, he was knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour was for 2 hours and we spent the rest of the afternoon walking around at our leisure. There is also a restaurant on site, which served jacket potatoes, fries, burgers, sandwiches and hot and cold drinks at reasonable prices.

    Having a guided tour is well recommended. Hearing the full life of a prisoner from the time he gets out of the van to the the transfer or end. How the sentences, daily routine, cells ratio to the number of prison Officers to prisoners have changed throughout the years. Some things are for the better,some are not so good. Great visit.

    Visited with my dad, we found the tour to be Very detailed by Matt, he was a brilliant guide. Gave us a real insight to how the prison life was in Victorian times and also present day.

    A very interesting tour with loads of fascinating facts about the history of Shrewsbury prison and prison life in general. A bit too much for younger children but great for adults. The only real problem was it was too cold.

    I would recommend you book the tour around the prison. Graham is an ex-prison officer who spent a large proportion of his career working in Shrewsbury Prison. His detailed insight on the workings of the prison made for a truly fascinating two hours. How he described the daily routine in such detail you could imagine yourself there. Ultimately it was not a nice place to be, and most people would struggle to cope with incarceration, but Graham portrayed a situation where he and his colleague’s made life in prison bearable treating prisoners with humanity and dignity whilst also maintaining the discipline necessary to maintain order. He didn’t pull any punches when describing the horror of capital punishment which was also administered at Shrewsbury. All in all it was the best guided tour I have been on, well done Graham
