This tour is absolutely brilliant and so much fun. Ebbi is a fantastic tour guide, a local who is super knowledgeable and passionate about the island he calls home. He brings history to life (including the wonderful HERJÓLFSTOWN Viking museum which Ebbi has been instrumental in creating). He crams a whole lot into a short amount of time. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone who visits the island. I will mention that people with limited mobility might find the tour a bit difficult. There is a lot of getting on and off the bus as the tour visits many places.

Puffin & Volcano Tour

This tour run by Eyjatours was wonderful. Ebbi, our guide, drove us completely around the island and provided much information along the way. We started at the golf course, where we saw puffins flying in and out to their nests built into a rocky cliff nearby. Near this spot was a bonus stop at the Herjolfstown exhibition, the stone house of the first settler in Vestmannaeyjar (the Westmann Islands). It was nice to see history coming to life. We then traveled further around the island, seeing some new homes being built, and ending at a steep, grassy field with a stone cliff to the sea where there were more puffins flying in and out to their homes built into burrows on the slope. There were also sheep that would come when called and happily eat treats (supplied for us) from our hands. Our last stop was at the Eldfell volcanic field where he explained about the three types of volcanic rock that we were seeing and some of the history of the 1973 volcano. A most excellent tour.

Lovely experience, a great way to get an overview of the islands. Ebbi is a super charismatic local with great insider info, and a wonderful sense of humour! Seeing the puffins and, for the kids feeding his grandfathers sheep with day old bread, were highlights of the trip!

We had an excellent tour with Ebbi. He was keen to share facts and stories about his life on Heimaey. We saw two puffin colonies ,one of which is by the golf course. We visited Viking recreation house, which he said he was in process of setting up. He answered all our questions. We also drove up the most recent eruption.

Highlight of our trip

Our guide was knowledgeable about the island , traditions and history , very personable and patient despite being asked the same questions by multiple people and even though he has probably given the tour hundreds of times still sounds interesting and passionate about it . He also had a great sense of humor. As for what you see , the islands are incredibly beautiful, puffins are unique and the Viking abode fascinating. Definitely the highlight of our trip !
