Das war so unglaublich! Es war toll, dass der Fahrradladen Windbekleidung (oben und unten) und Fleecewesten anbot. Der Van-Fahrer hat uns eine Menge Geschichte über die Inseln erzählt, als wir auf den Gipfel gefahren sind, was ziemlich cool war, obwohl ich nach dem Aufwachen um 2 Uhr ein bisschen aufgehört habe. m. Ein Führer brachte uns mit dem Fahrrad den Berg hinunter, während der Lieferwagen unserer Gruppe folgte, um den Verkehrsfluss gering zu halten und uns in Sicherheit zu bringen. Der Führer sagte uns, wann wir langsamer fahren oder zur Seite fahren sollen. Ich bin so froh, dass wir das erste Mal eine geführte Tour gemacht haben. Ich kann sehen, wie einige Anfänger (ohne Führer) übermütig und hinreißend werden könnten, wenn sie zu schnell fahren. Die Landschaft ist einfach unglaublich. ! Ich würde das wieder tun, wenn ich die Chance hätte. Sogar mein verschrobenes Teengirl hat es geliebt!

Everything was very well organized at the base. The whole team was very professional and safety conscious but made sure you had a great time. Eddie was the best driver. The encouragement given by our guides were making it possible for me to go up then biking down the Haleakala mountain. Thank you to Ryan, Larry and Roy I think, the one that has been going up for the last 33 years. A life changing experience. The highlight of my sunrise experience is the Hawaiian chant at the top. The team at Bike Maui were incredible. They drove us to see the amazing sunrise and regaled us with stories and information about the native plants and history of the island. They carefully orchestrated the group in the bike ride down the mountain. This provided a full day of entertainment and a great introduction to Maui.

Beautiful sunrise and very knowledgeable and pleasant tour guides. I liked that we arrived shortly before sunrise so we weren’t waiting in the freezing cold too long. The bike ride was all downhill, no pedaling at all just braking. You’re going down with a good amount of speed, so even though it’s not physically demanding I would still recommend some comfort on a bike ahead of time. We had a great time and would recommend it!

Amazing experience! Absolutely loved seeing the view and the sunrise. The bike down was intense. Only reason I gave this a 4 and not a 5 was I didn’t realize how fast you can go and how those turns can be super intense if you’re not used to it. But, I do like the option of hoping on the bus if you don’t feel comfortable. Definitely wear the layers!! We loved our tour guide Russel and Cory. Russel took some great pictures of us and had great information about Haleakala, he was also great at giving direction for biking. We look forward to seeing his project come to life and maybe hike and camp Haleakala one day.

Haleakala sunrise bike ride disappointing

We took this same trip about 20 years ago and it was fantastic. Unfortunately, this 2023 version fell far short. There was a raging rain & wind storm when we left at 3am, and it was forecast to continue for the entire day across the entire mountain, yet the trip was not canceled. We knew to expect rain, mist and cold at the top so early in the morning, and that sunrise over the caldera may not be seen, but to continue the trip with such a horrendous forecast for the downhill bike ride spoke of more concern for Bike Maui profits than for their guests' experience. We actually planned our trip so that we could reschedule in case of poor weather (as they guarantee they'll do if possible), but we had no choice because they didn't cancel the trip. We think they should have. 20 years ago the bike ride provided beautiful vistas of agricultural fields & the ocean, through eucalyptus groves & charming mountain towns. BUT!…now bikers are only allowed below the Nat’l Park boundary at 6500’ (used to start at top—10K’). And the town of Kula no longer permits bikers to ride the middle section of Haleakala. So now you get your bike at 6500’, ride for 5 miles, get back on the van to ride thru Kula environs, then ride the bike for the bottom 5 miles which are not at all scenic or interesting. Used to see vast pineapple plantations & sugar cane fields on the island> the last of those closed in 2016 (no longer economical to grow/process & ship from Hawaii) so the fields below Haleakala are not as beautiful. IF you decide to go, be aware you may not see sunrise (always clouds/weather at the top), the bike ride itself is not so great anymore(see above), BUT the Bike Maui personnel WERE excellent and we had an amazing, informative & colorful lesson on the history, people, agriculture, & volcanos of Hawaii from our van driver, Marlon. Our bike ride leader, Russell was experienced and reassuring for newer riders & very kind. Also, if you ride at all, consider the UNguided tour which gives you the van ride up the mountain & you bike down yourself without van support from 6500’. Call & ask if the unguided rides are able to bike through Kula which would be more enjoyable….I think they may be allowed...

Watching the vibrant colors of the sunrise was an experience that I will never forget!!! In spite of having to get up at the wee hours of the morning and the wind that took our breath away as we were waiting for the sun to rise, it was well worth it! The bike ride down was also an experience that I will never forget. Our guide, Russell, was great! He was so positive and reassuring on our ride, and we learned quite a bit about the Maui environment!

Was a great time with a friendly and helpful staff. The staff made the trip. It might seem intimidating but it truly is not bad. I would highly suggest the guided tour as they use a van to block traffic most of the time to allow you to use the entire lane of the road.

Loved this trip!! It was cold and drizzly that morning so we could not see the sunrise unfortunately but still got a nice trip and pics. You get rain/wind breaker, highly recommended to wear them. It is an hour drive but Chris kept us entertained with his stories. The kids were so miserable and mad but it was short lived, they love the bike ride down. It’s mostly all down hill and very little uphill. I was able to do it even with an almost healed broken ankle. Ryan was our bike leader and he was amazing! It was beautiful! We stopped for lunch and then had 3 miles left. The kids said it was the greatest trip ever and want to go again. Get the guided so they stop traffic for you. Bring hand warmers for the top. Will definitely recommend!!

It was worth getting up very early to see those colors. Make sure you dress warm because it gets down close to freezing up there and the wind can be fierce. If you have any type of motion sickness, be prepared to deal with that on the way up.
