Word of warning: if you book this tour, especially on a busy weekend, I would ask if your tour guide will be with you the whole time or if they will have multiple groups. I hate to leave a negative review, but for what this cost and the experience, I need to share in the hopes the company will improve certain practices.
We were supposed to be picked up at 330 and were picked up 45 minutes late--we were the first to be picked up of our small group. Before pick-up, our tour guide started out great, letting us know he'd be "5 minutes late". Well...that turned out to be a theme. He was always 'just 5 minutes away', but it would turn into 20, 30, 40 minutes.
We got to our first activity--Cave of the Winds--at 5ish and out at 610. We texted and he said he'd 'be there in 20 minutes'. Well...45 minutes later, he showed up. At this point it was 7pm and we'd done only 1 activity. I contacted the tour guide company asking what our options were for a partial refund given we wouldn't get the full value of our tour...and never heard back. We confronted him about all the delays and he said it was circumstances beyond his control --he'd been double booked ("juggling") so was actually managing two tour groups on one of the busiest weekends of the season. That's on the company, for sure, but he didn't change anything to make up time or be upfront about what we would miss or what the revised plan would be.
He took us for a walk around the falls and proceeded to mostly tell us about how the Mafia controlled the Canadian side--good chunks of his commentary was quite morbid/sordid like this, rather than about the natural wonder of the waterfalls. I get it, and perhaps on a different day I would have been in the mood, but learning about drug dealers getting killed, etc. just wasn't what I wanted. Then he sprinted over to the Maid of the Mist to get us on the very last boat at 8pm. Good for him for swinging it, but if he hadn't spent so much time talking about the Mafia or had just let us go see the falls instead of making us wait around for 45 mins after Cave of the Winds without him...well we wouldn't have had to rush. Though we did walk straight onto the Maid of the Mist, no wait, which was nice and clearly a result of him having built solid relationships with the tour guide operators over the years. Then he took us to dinner. It was 9pm at this point. He came in a couple times to check on us and started apologizing for all the delays. Because it was so late, we missed seeing Whirlpool state park and we missed seeing the fireworks--he didn't even bother to tell us we'd miss the fireworks until we were driving back to the falls after 10pm. He took us to the waterfalls to see them illuminated and very kindly offered to drive us back to our hotel on the Canadian side. He was a good guy, but the lack of transparency about time and accountability when we confronted him about how much of our time was being wasted (and the endless talk of the Mafia and some other off color commentary) put me off enjoying much of the trip. The attractions themselves were amazing. Dinner & service at Steak Stone & Sushi was good.
Honestly, it would have been more efficient and cheaper to just do the 2 pay-for attractions ourselves and take ourselves to dinner. We wouldn't have missed the fireworks, then, either, or spent so much of our day frustrated & standing around in the rain waiting for our tour guide who was "just five minutes away" and offering commentary that was off putting.
