Ein fabelhafter Ausflug!
tamarakeitt, Dez. 2019
A great day out with Beatriz

A full day out at three wineries with lunch in the middle of the day and a great host driving us for the entire trip. All three wineries were local businesses who were very hospitable and knowledgeable, the food at lunch was in a great setting by the Douro. Recommended.
Drinking Port with New Friends - What Could be Better?
Sper007, Apr. 2019
We were a group of four from the US (NY and NJ) who met four others, a couple from Texas and two ladies from Australia on our fun adventure. We had a blast and thought our tour guide and driver George did a great job. He was professional, knowledgeable and had good stories to share. He encouraged us and we had a great time talking, tasting wines and learning about the different varieties of port and the history of the Douro Valley. We enjoyed the Quinta Sears d'Ordens and the town of Pinhao, as well as our stopover in Amarante to visit Sao Goncalo. Lunch was nice and not rushed. All in all a fun trip and great day with other fun loving people who wanted to learn more about wine and port.
Awesome Day!

Wonderful day with great food, wine, scenery and people. Our guide Antonio was very informative and made the tour very enjoyable. We were a group of 4 couples which was a perfect size for this type of tour. We started with morning pastries before visiting 3 wineries and enjoying a great riverside lunch. Then we ended the day with a mountaintop view of the Douro Valley we had explored all day.

Outstanding tour. We booked 7 tours over two weeks in Lisbon and Porto, and this one was the consensus best tour we did on our entire trip. Antonio was our guide/driver, as well as the company owner. He went the extra mile on everything. The food and wine tastings were top-notch, and the sights were amazing. Cannot praise this experience enough. Must-do.

Beautiful area to visit. Our tour guide was nice but I felt that we did not get enough information regarding the area we were visiting, some of the answers were left unanswered, I was expecting bit more from our expert.

Had a great time, but could have included another Porto stop and not the dolce stop. Filipa was a great guide!
Amazing Tour

Fantastic day in spectacular countryside
Steve_H, Juni 2018
We booked this tour and were not disappointed. Our guide for the day was Beatrice and were collected in the foyer of our hotel before collecting two other couples to start our day long tour. It was great value for money too - the day started at 8.15am and we were dropped back at the hotel at 7pm. We had a 30 minute or so drive to Amarante for a short visit tot eh local church and comfort break before heading into a delightful pastry shop to sample 6 local pastries with coffee. All the pastries were far too sweet for us but it mattered not, the experience was great. We then drove on to begin our wine sampling, port sampling, a visit to an Olive Oil press, some spectacular views and of course, a lovely lunch buy the side of the river. Our guide Beatrice was delightful, we lost count of the number of different wines we sampled and overall, could not have had a more enjoyable day. I would highly recommend this tour

An excellent day, visited a couple of wineries, port and olive oil producers and visited a few beautiful and scenic towns where we stopped for good food along the way. Our guide Filipa was extremely helpful and kind. She went out of her way to return some olive oil we had purchased and forgot in the can.

We couldnt recommend this tour enough. The Douro Valley is stunning, and to have excellent guides navigating us through this beautiful area with excellent knowledge and insight was the cherry on top. All the vineyards we visited were warm, welcoming and inviting. The wine was amazing, the food was delicious. I wish we could have stayed for days. Antonio and crew are amongst the best in their field. Bravo!

This tour was listed as a small group tour, but my wife and I were the only ones on it. Beatriz was our most knowledgeable and charming guide for the day. Her knowledge of the area was impressive. I highly recommend this tour, and especially Beatriz!

If you've got a day when you're in Porto definitely do this tour. You're in a private car that holds 3 guests and a driver. The Douro Valley is drop-dead gorgeous and the places you're taken to are worth a visit. On the way you stop at the city of Amarante which itself is worth a day's visit, though you only get an hour or so.

Places visited and itinerary were top notch and well thought out / curated. It was obvious that the tour had been arranged by someone with real expertise in this area. The day was a good mix of wines in the region as well as local produce. Took off one star as driving by tour guide was quite dangerous especially on a day / evening with heavy rain. Would advise the squeamish to request safer driving which is the only reason why my review is not 5 stars.

We had an amazing tour of the Douro Valley! We ended up being the only 2 people on the tour, and Yara was a fantastic tour guide. The tour had a nice pace and we enjoyed all of the foods and wines. Highly recommend!

Antonia, was the perfect tour guide - loved his driving through the wine country and explaining everything along the way. Great thought into his stops to vineyards and restaurant, wanted to have us experience things that he would want to see as a visitor We would like to thank him for all his effort put into our tour of the wine country.

This was a very nice tour lasting 12 hours. Antonio picked us up in front of our apt. In Porto. There were only 3 on the tour. Antonio spoke great English and was very knowledgable of the area and the process of making Port Wine. We had a lovely lunch included. A stop in the village of Amarante was enjoyable to visit the church and taste the local pastries made of egg yolks and sugar. We walked around the small lake which was very picturesque. We also saw the little train station in Pinhao with its beautiful blue/white tile murals. Antonio took us to a great vantage point for photos of the Douro Valley.

My wife and I booked this tour while visiting Porto. As promised our tour guide Beatriz picked us up in front of our Vila Nova de Gaia flat at 8:30 AM sharp. She was very personable and professional and as we were the only two guests, whisked us away as if on a private tour. Our first stop was the small village of Amarante where we had a tour of a local chapel and town center, and a stop for cafe and some sweet treats. On toward the Douro Valley we enjoyed lively conversation with Beatriz on several topics, and along with interesting scenery we soon arrived at Quinta Avassada Enoteca. Here our host Evo led us to a garden area where we tasted an important wine of the region Moscatel. We enjoyed crusty bread and cheese along with our tasting. We then enjoyed a year old Moscatel which was a complex and enjoyable port like wine, while taking a tour of a wine making area. Now we continue to Bucheirito Estate to enjoy lunch with Douro wines of Malvasia and Touriga Nacional. We were able to select a vegetarian option which we appreciate, and the lunch was delicious. After desert, we try aged Moscatel wine which is delightful, and more red wine to enjoy while meeting the family and touring the facility and vineyard. Afterward, we enjoy splendid views of the vineyards and take a selfie with our guide Beatriz and the owner of this Quinta, Mr António! Now we are transported through the narrow and twisting roads by our expert driver to enjoy amazing views of this incredible wine region, with opportunities to take some photos. Late in the day, we arrive for our final wine tasting of the fine products of one of the few small, family owned Port wine producers, Quinta Santa Eugenia. We enjoy a brief tour of the facility and grounds before our hostess Theresa pours samples of white, LBV Ruby and Tawny ports which are wonderful. We have a very personal experience one on one with the Theresa, and then a last taste of a special white port which is exquisite. Sadly, it is time to leave the Valley Douro, and we relax while Beatriz returns us quickly, yet safely in the rush hour traffic and evening rain directly to our flat. This was truly an amazing, all day adventure, more like taking a ride with a good friend to visit family and enjoy some wonderful wine and food, learning about the wines, the history, the process and even family in a personal atmosphere. Highly recommend this incredible tour, and hope you will be fortunate to have Beatriz for your guide.
This was one of the best tours we've...
Michael O, Sept. 2017
This was one of the best tours we've been on with Viator, and the key factors are the group size, content, and approach. Antonio was our guide and part owner of the touring company Viator contracts with, and he planned a memorable day for us. The group was intentionally small, only set for 4 people, but due to a last-minute cancellation became 3. The touring vehicle was a zippy but comfortable SUV, so perfect for the size of our group. This detail was taken into consideration and is only one example of the care and thoughtful planning that Antonio gives his groups. Who wants to be stuck with 100 people on a tour bus?! This was the idea size. We were picked up right at our hotel AC Hotel, and our first stop outside of Porto was to a small town that had historic significance to the Portuguese revolution. We sampled sweet convent treats and coffee before heading to our first wine stop. We reached the winery and had both white wine and various types of port. The grounds were beautiful and we were even kindly given the option by the workers to stomp a few grapes of course not included in every tour, haha. We then went to have lunch on a old family quinta estate, which was a very special experience. We ate in the family home, were served amazing aged red wine among many others, and received a tour of their 'natural cooling' storage area on the property. The lunch was entirely homemade and Antonio made sure they included vegetarian options as well. This is the benefit to having a local tour company plan your day - their relationships and connections offer you a unique experience. After this we made a stop at an olive oil and wine making business with an amazing view photos included. We left those views for the final stop of the tour near Vila Real. At this quinta, we had a tour with the owner herself, who showed us all steps in the port wine making process, as well as took us through a Port 101 tasting. All of our questions were answered and we had a wonderful time. Perfect cap to the day. We then learned more about the Portuguese culture and modern history of Porto from Antonio on the drive back. What makes this particular tour stand out is the combination of the port tasting with the small group setting and easy-going approach to giving you a taste of all the Porto area and Douro Valley has to offer in terms of history, culture and flavor. We were never pressured to purchase product from any stop, and Antonio made us feel at ease and taken care of on this lovely trip. Cheers! Ashley and Michael
