Unsere Tour war absolut fantastisch und alles, was wir wollten - von der Verkostung köstlicher Weine über das Bestaunen wunderschöner Aussichten bis hin zum Erlernen so vieler lustiger Informationen über die Weinherstellung und Portugal selbst von Hugo und Verena. Ich kann diese Tour jedem wärmstens empfehlen, der das Douro-Tal und alles, was es zu bieten hat, wirklich schätzen und genießen möchte!

This whole excursion exceeded our expectations of a small group tour. Right from our initial booking Hugo and Verena were easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any questions. Hugo’s knowledge of the history of the Douro Valley and willingness to share it with us was captivating. If you enjoy traveling away from the populated tourist areas this is the tour. We can’t pick a favourite part of the day because each stop was unique. The lunch stop was enjoyable because staff were so friendly and welcoming, besides being amazing cooks. Glad Hugo was driving, so we were able to enjoy all the sights. Thanks again

The scenery was beautiful and we loved the places we stopped at throughout the day. The boat trip was lovely and relaxing. The winery tasting included white, rose and port wines — all excellent. And the authentic lunch was fabulous with lovely wines as well. I would highly recommend this tour.

SO worth it to skip the big tour buses and go with Hugo’s small group. He knows the region so well and took us to some great spots. The tour was well planned and thought out and we thoroughly enjoyed it!! PS make sure you plan to arrive early to the pick up spot ;) we had a late start due to a group being late

A Day in Douro with Hugo the Expert!

This was a perfect way to transition from Porto to Douro Valley! Hugo our guide was exceptional and every stop was perfect! We took a cab from the end of the tour at Sabrosa to stay a few days in wine country when the rest of the group returned to Porto. Truly fabulous!

I booked this trip for my parents who are winemakers themselves and very picky about wine, gastronomy & tours in general. They had a blast and said the trip was absolutely perfect. Hugo is extremely knowledgable and able to show places outside the standard tourist hotspots. He and his wife are freelancers and not part of an agency, hence they are very dedicated and passionate. Pick this for your Douro Valley tour.

I signed up for this wine tour somewhat last minute. I was pleasantly surprised by how much knowledge our guide had about this region and the wine/wineries. Besides the beautiful settings and well-chosen vineyards/wineries, the small group experience created the ideal space for a warm, personable interaction for the participants to get to know each other and have a very fun time on this tour. Loved it!!!

This was such an enjoyable and worthwhile way to spend a day while in Porto. Getting out into the beautiful Duoro Valley countryside with Hugo was such fun, very informative- and delicious! We met him in the city center and my family of 5 (including two teenagers) piled into a van along with three other travellers and off we sped, too the wine valley. Along the way we did a tasting of theee ports at a very small vineyard, then took a short boat ride on the river, and later ate lunch (and drank more Port and wine, of course) at another beautiful vineyard before heading back to the city. It was quite hot- but the stops were shady and we stayed comfortable. Hugo is very knowledgeable and accommodating. He does drive very fast- and the road is a bit treacherous, so be warned! 🤪

Hugo picked us up on time and we had a ride to the Douro Valley. We stopped for coffee/bathroom stop then on to a lovely boat ride on the Douro. Hugo was a wealth of information about wine, Portugal, Porto and the valley ( which is a UNESCO world heritage site) First to Fonseca winery. We tasted a white, ruby and tawny port there. Lunch was lovely-two choices. Then another wine tasting of different ages of tawny ports. You could tell the difference. Then back to Porto. Hugo was kind enough to drop us off at his hotel on his way home! Delightful day. Only 8 people in a van plus Hugo so we could go up tiny roads to intimate wineries.
Douro Valley Tour

We were fortunate to be on tour with Hugo and Verena of Viva Douro tours yesterday. It was wonderful and they are delightful individuals. The tour began at the meeting point in Porto at 8:30 AM. From there we were driven in their comfortable van to the Douro region. We stopped for coffee before enjoying a river cruise up the very picturesque Douro River, then onto our first winery. This was followed by a 3 course lunch and another wine tasting. After lunch we enjoyed a demonstration and tasting of Port wines and some social time with our group and our guides. Throughout the day Hugo shared his extensive knowledge of the valley and the wines. His love of the valley and his country was evident throughout. The tour was well worth it and our guides made the entire experience a delight! Thank you Viva Douro and Viator.
