This is a challenging tour - swimming in dark water, bouldering, tight spaces, and cave creatures to name a few - which made it perfect for our family. Our guide gave solid directions and provided all the necessary support to make to doable. It was a beautiful geologic experience and a solemn interaction with history.

See the cave, but go with a different company

There are really 3 components to review: the cave, the guide, and the operating company. For the cave, it is incredible, indescribable, and unforgettable. You absolutely must see it. The guide we had was named Patrick. He seemed knowledgeable enough. He competently got us in and out of the cave. Some of his crass jokes were not to my liking. I also got the impression he was not as informed about Mayan culture and history as some of the other guides from other companies. I overheard what some of the other tours were being told when we passed by inside the cave and Patrick had not shared that same interesting information with our group. But he did make sure to let us know several times that only the ladies could call him "Chocolate Patrick". As for the company, I recommend you look for a different one. If you are looking at this company because it is the most economical choice in terms of price, know that is because they are not the best. The problems started in the morning. The confirmation message I received the night before said we would be picked up at 7am. I am submitting that screenshot with my review so everyone can see that it clearly says 7am. 7am came and went. At 730, I called the company. They insisted that I had the time wrong, that I was confused, that pickup time is always at 8 for the cave tour. How would I know what it always is, I only have my confirmation message. The driver promptly showed up at 8am. If you've ever woken up at 530am to be ready by 7, then forced to tiredly wait for an hour because of someone else's error when you could have slept longer, you'll empathize with why we were in a frustrated mood. The driver, who said his name was Glis (or Luis), did not empathize with our situation. The company satisfactorily drove us to and from the cave. The lunch was good. The team seemed to genuinely want to make sure that we got enough rum punch. I was surprised to discover this company was also the operator (for part) of our Tikal tour the next day, except that they go by the name "Belize Family Adventures" for that tour. I'm unclear why that might be. The cave tour was so enjoyable that I was willing by the end of the day to not be so upset about the morning pickup error, except Glis (the driver) argumentatively told us at the end of the day that the Tikal pickup time is the one at 7am, not ATM. I did not appreciate Glis rudely reiterating how confused I must be, and how I must really read the messages carefully. Considering it was their error, an apology at any time would have been appreciated. I can't see why it would have been hard to say that they were sorry for the inconvenience. The low rating is entirely because of their lack of professionalism, lack of customer service, failure to effectively communicate, and for insinuating that I am incapable of reading a pickup time.

Our guide, Edward of Belize Caving Expeditions was the best. My wife and I are 65 and needed special attention to make sure we negotiated the climbs and passages in the cave safely. His focus on safety was unfailing. Without his watchful eye, we would not have come thru unscathed. The cave was amazing on so many levels. It was breath takingly beautiful, scientifically educational, historically interesting, and even morbidly facinating. It is well worth the physical and mental challenges you have to overcome. During our vacation we went to Tikal, Lammai, sailing to Caye Tabacco, snorkeled, saw manatees, etc., but this was the best thing we did. It will be the highlight of your trip to Belize.

A truly educational experience. Slightly physical, climbing and swimming through a cave. The guides are very knowledgeable and make the trip great. Historical gem! The biggest disappointment is no cameras or devices are allowed in the cave.

This ATM Cave tour was the single most amazing experience of this trip to Belize. The guides were friendly, helpful, courteous and extremely knowledgeable on the Mayan subject matter. The artifacts, sacrificial remains and accompanying information was riveting. The caving experience was much more than strolling through the water in a cave and was so fun.

Amazing experience. Patrick was our tour guide who was excellent. Teaches you about many forest plants and history while walking you to the caves and then amazing guide inside. Absolute must do while in Belize if physically able. I would say 5/10 level difficulty.

This was one of the coolest things we have ever done. It was a lot more challenging than we ever expected, but our guide Manuel gave great instructions and encouragement. The guides can't take more than 8 in each group. We were lucky to get tickets. Unlike anything in the US, once we made it to the dry cave we were a hands reach from the artifacts. I didn't expect there to be so many. A great lunch after. We recomend this.

Incredible! This tour challenged everything I had in me! Our guide Abraham even brought me back from the brink of a claustrophobic freak out to do the entire cave tour. Bring shoes to get wet, wear shorts that will stand up to sliding down rocks on your rear end, and trust your guide to show you the wonders of the cave. I still can't believe we did it! If I did it on my 52nd Birthday with my 11 year old kid you can do it too! It is AMAZING!

This ranks among the best travel experiences of my life, and I’ve traveled a lot. It’s almost hard to believe that what you are seeing is real, but real it is, and the only way to believe is to see it with your own eyes. Patrick was a phenomenal tour guide in every way. He was funny, extremely knowledgeable, extremely capable maneuvering in the cave (and helping all of us to do the same), and obviously loved his work and his home country of Belize. I can’t recommend this tour enough, but I do recommend specifically requesting Patrick as your guide. I heard through the grapevine that he is one of the best, and it’s hard to imagine anyone being better.

ATM is definitely a must do when visiting Belize. Our guide Glis was super knowledgeable about Mayan history, and even taught us a few words. The pacing was awesome, and it was an exciting but safe experience. Highly recommended!!

Eduardo was the most amazing tour guide ever!! He was very friendly and very knowledgeable about everything we saw in the cave and walking to and from the cave. It was neat to go through a cave that had water in it. At times it was only ankle deep, but in a few places, it was up to my chest and at least one place, I had to swim. I had a long sleeved quick-dry shirt on over my swimsuit which I was grateful for because I got a little chilly in the cave because I was wet for so long. Lunch afterward was delicious. This tour IS NOT as hard as all the descriptions make it out to be. The hike before and after is essentially a nature walk and the climbing in the cave was not difficult at all. I totally recommend this tour! It was amazing!!
