Versailles and the gardens are amazing especially being created so long ago. Unfortunately we waited for 15 minutes in the driving rain after the tour was supposed to start for a couple who had not shown up. I understand being in a strange land makes getting around more difficult but don’t make your other (the majority) of your paying customers suffer because you broke your own rules.

Excellent tour slightly marred.

We had a very good and knowledgeable guide which made the visit much more interesting. However it took us half an hour to get going for various reasons so I feel we probably missed out on some things we would have seen given the full three hours booked.

Place this tour on the top of your bucket list!!! The Palace was extraordinary. The musical gardens were also a ‘must see’. Our guide, Roberto, shared his vast knowledge and charming personality with all and I feel most fortunate he was our guide!!! A relaxing lunch, in a lovely wooded area of the gardens, topped of this dream experience. Thank you, Roberto and God bless🙋‍♀️

I have been on guided tours before, even one at Versailles, and this was uniquely bad. It was advertised as a “half day” experience when actually it was only two hours. we were asked to meet our guide at 2:45. She showed up at 3:20, and the only reason we waited was because we called the tour company and they told us she was late on the train with the rest of the group. She then proceeded to walk us to meet the actual tour guide who didn’t take us anywhere for another 20-25 minutes as she talked to the other guide and suggested we all use the bathrooms- none of my party went and we were waiting for others in the long lines. Now it’s 3:45 and we begin our tour through the gardens. our guide didn’t say one word while we were walking, ever. That has always been a time, in my experience, to start sharing information. We followed her in silence, she took us to the edge of the courtyard, showed us our maps, walked past the fountain and we enter red the palace at 4:20. We followed her, and the rest of the crowds through the rooms, she showed us pictures on her iPad, gave some facts and we were back out by 5:40, the palace closing at 6. I would recommend no one to do this tour. We spent over $400 for this. We Would have been far better off listening to an audio tour on our own. So disappointing.

We are very sorry to read your review, I hope I can address some of your concerns here. On the day of your tour there were some delays with the other guests coming from Paris. There were works on the train line and they had to take a different route, some slower walkers in the group meant it took longer than it should have done, and we are sorry that you had to wait for them. We have not been able to identify your booking (Viator do not give us enough information in the review section to allow us to) so we are not able to talk to your guide. We would be very grateful if you could contact us so we can know who she was and speak to her. Generally the guides start the tour as soon as they meet you and continue right throughout the tour, there is certainly a lot to talk about in Versailles! We are sorry that this was not the case on your tour and will certainly take it up with the guide as soon as we are able to identify her. Once again we are very sorry that you were disappointed with your tour. You have to see Versaille to believe it. It is fascinating to see the grandeur of the place and helps you to understand why the French Revolution took place. We have been to other palaces but none of them get close to Versailles in terms of oppulence. We also had a fantastic guide whi wad not only informative but also had lots of interesting stories and was really happy to answer questions.

Disappointed

This tour was quite disappointing. We had a tour of the gardens which were beautiful. We then had to wait 40 minutes for our guide to get the tickets to the castle. The tour of the castle was rushed as we were late. We were then chased out as it was closing time. We did not have any time to explore the shop or gardens again. This was not worth the money we spend.

Thank you for your review, although we are very sorry to read that you were disappointed. We book our entrance reservations and tickets many months in advance, but the guides have to go in and pick up the tickets and a sticker giving them the right to guide inside on the day. We always try to do this in advance of the guide meeting you, this is why we have the coordinator meet you and accompany you to the palace, so that all this can be taken care of when you arrive. There must have been a hold up at the ticket desks on the day of your visit and we are very sorry about that. Please rest assured that we have everything in place to ensure that there is no waiting for our guests and that they can fully enjoy their visit, we are sorry that you did not experience this and hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you on another occasion and give you a 5* experience.

Unforgettable full day at Versailles

We took the full day tour with Roman. It was well worth the price and the time. Roman was knowledgeable and engaging. He was able to give so much information about the kings, their ladies and their life up to and after the revolution that Versailles came alive for us.

Disappointing

The tour company did not give the guide the correct tickets and we had to wait for a long time, the house tour was brought forward and we spent very little time in the gardens. Whistle tour round the house, that was it. Not worth the £80 each we paid. Credit to our guide, he was very apologetic and tried to make the best if a very difficult situation. Overall very disappointed, won’t use aviator again.

For the palace entrance, we have a pre-reserved entry time that allows our group to skip the lines and go in at our booked time. We try to spend as much time in the gardens as possible, but we also have to be on time for the palace entrance as they are very strict about it. We hope that you enjoyed your time with Matthew nonetheless and once again we are sorry we were not able to offer you a 5* experience on the day of your tour. Versailles 1/2 day

The guide was very good. He was knowledgeable, good personality and kept the group moving. However the meeting experience left much to be desired. (A different person from actual guide) We received no specific info on who to look for at the meeting location. Upon arrival, we found no one from Viator. I had to call 2 times and was told she was running late. (20 minutes). No apologies or acknowledgment when she did finally arrive. Viator contracted out with Memories. It would have been helpful to know to look for Memories and not a Viator sign. This poor meet and greet set the tone for the tour unfortunately.

We have a fantastic team of coordinators who meet our guests in central Paris and escort you on the train to Versailles. The guide is at Versailles collecting the tickets and reservations so that everything is ready for you to go straight in when you arrive. However the train that the group was on was held up slightly on the day of your tour, and as you were meeting us in Versailles it meant that they arrived a little later than usual. We do call all our guests whenever there are any hold ups and we are glad that you took the initiative and called us, please don't hesitate to call if ever you need information or reassurance. Viator is a sales platform and all the tours on it are run by different local operators all around the world. They are tours that we create and run and they are sold on Viator. We are a local operator in Paris, we make sure our team have orange badges and lanyards so even if you don't know that it's us you are looking for, you can see them clearly and this is indicated on the voucher so you recognise them. We are glad that you enjoyed the tour nonetheless and hope you had a great stay here in Paris.

Just didn’t go well

We were struggling to navigate getting to the location in time and began reaching out to viator over an hour before the tour began. We didn’t hear back until 2 minutes after the tour started, at which point they told us there wasn’t anything they could do. They sent us tickets for the gardens but by the time we got them, we had already left. We asked if the tour guide could come get us so we could enter, but we were told no, even though they began in the gardens and weren't in the palace yet when we got there. There was no good way to reach viator or the tour company, so we were just kind of left. Just a bad experience all around.

Don’t waste your time or money “skipping the line”

Didn’t even go on the tour. Couldn’t find the guide in pouring rain. No description or signs of what the guide would look like and didn’t call us to see if there wasn’t an issue with our delay. Won’t refund us for a missed opportunity. Had to spend money again to take the tour and the entry line was so quick so there wasn’t a need for a “skip the line” concept.

We are very sorry to read your review and disappointed that you were not able to find your guide. We do have both a guide and a coordinator on our Versailles tours to ensure that everyone is taken care of. They are both identified by the orange badges they wear on an orange lanyard and our coordinator has a very visible orange cap - all this information should be on the voucher that you receive with your booking confirmation. We also provide detailed instructions on how to get to the meeting point and a map. Our team calls all guests who are not at the meeting point 10 minutes before the tour start to see if you need help. We try to put as many procedures in place as possible to ensure that all our guests find us easily and are helped if they are having any trouble, we are very sorry that this was not the case for you, I can only assume that we were not able to get through to the number that your provided on your booking. We do have a very flexible cancellation policy allowing a full refund up to 24 hours before your tour start time. However we are not able to refund for missed tours. We have all the tickets and reservations and the spaces on the tour are saved for you. In terms of the line, our special group access reservation takes us through a different entrance where we have a timed entry. The individual ticket lines at Versailles can be very long, this varies of course depending on the day. We are happy that you were able to get in quickly and once again sorry that you missed your tour with us. We hope that you had a great stay in Paris nonetheless.

Disappointing overall

Unfortunately the tour started an hour late but ended even before planned end time. Communication from the operator was not timely. The guide was great, knowledgeable and personable. But a half day Rollie that took only two hours and 10 minutes. Weather should not have impacted the time of the tour... We made it on time, so should have the rest of the group...

Thank you for your review, although we are very sorry to read it. I have checked what happened on the day of your visit, and it seems you entered the palace just a few minutes late. There are some transport strikes at the moment so although the group caught the train on time, the trains were running extra slow that day and the group arrived in Versailles around 15 minutes late with our coordinator. We did call all guests at the meeting point in Versailles to inform you of this short delay. The guide tells us that she started the tour outside before you entered the palace, as all guides do, explaining the history of the construction of the palace (much easier to understand when seen from outside at the front) and giving other background details so as to set the scene for what you would see inside. She also tells us that she did slightly cut the visit in the gardens by 15 minutes due to what sounds like extreme weather conditions, rain and hail, but that she remained on hand for any questions or help needed. Our tours do go ahead in all weathers, but the guides will react on the spot to any strong weather conditions in order to ensure that the visit is safe and comfortable for all guests. We hope nonetheless that you enjoyed your visit, and that you had a great stay in Paris.

While our guide was lovely, I was disappointed in the "skip the line" . The wait was crazy. The crowds even worse. Other tour guides were breaking through our group, unable to see points of interest. The headphones were sketchy. The wait for the restroom was ridiculous. If your timing groups, then let groups go thru the rooms at a specific time. When we tried to get in the gardens, our tickets were not valid and had to be resent from the tour office. Seemed to be a lot of confusion.But, the Palace itself was lovely, just wish we could have enjoyed it more.

Thank you for your review, although we are sorry that our tour did not live up to your expectations. We do book a reserved entry time slot at the palace, many months in advance. This allows us to completely avoid the long lines you see in front of the palace, and usually we enter on time at our allotted time. However it is the guards at Versailles who control the entry times, in case of crowding our guides will do all they can to ensure we get in as quickly as possible. They are also there to ensure you navigate the crowds inside as best and as easily as possible, ensuring you get the best viewpoints and don't miss anything. Versailles is a hugely popular site and it can get very busy, the guards onsite manage this as best they can, and our guides are experts in guiding you through the crowds as well as on the fascinating history of the palace! We apologise for the confusion with the garden tickets, our team sent the new ones immediately and we are glad you were able to get in without waiting. We hope you had a great stay in Paris and that we may have the chance to take you to Versailles on another occasion when the visiting conditions are better.

Versailles another must see

Although we missed the first part of the tour in the palace because we were late, Memories of France was able to accommodate the second half of the tour of the private quarters of the king and queen, the garden, and Hamlet. Our tour guide Astrid met up with us and was awesome!! Very knowledgeable as well.
